10 Tips to Decrease EMF Exposure: Regain and Energy and Health

Have you ever worried about the effects of cell phones or Wi-Fi on your family?
Electromagnetic pollution (EMF) has been linked in over 8,000 published studies to cellular mutation and increased cancer risk.
Yet, the U.S. government has done little to protect or even warn us. In fact, it has recently approved the nationwide rollout of the 5G network, which will significantly increase our exposure to high-frequency radiation. These chaotic frequencies can affect focus, disrupt sleep, and contribute to disease.
Dr. Joe Mercola recently stated that, in 20 years, we will look back at the epidemic of unmitigated EMF exposure as being even more dangerous than we currently consider secondhand smoke.
Think about it—back in the 1970s, the government also ignored the dangers of smoking. It wasn’t until studies mounted, revealing serious health risks, that regulations were finally put in place.
So, the question is: Will you and your family be human guinea pigs, or will you take action now to reduce your EMF exposure?
Many “electrically sensitive” individuals report symptoms like headaches, brain fog, fatigue, and sleep disturbances due to excessive exposure to Wi-Fi, cell phone towers, and electronic devices. However, most people have never even heard of EMF, and even fewer take steps to minimize it in their homes and offices.
Because EMF is invisible, it’s easy to overlook. But with more devices in our environment than ever before—and safety studies unable to keep up—the cumulative exposure is a serious concern.
The good news? You can dramatically decrease your exposure with just a few simple changes. Below, I’ll share 10 easy ways to reduce EMF in your daily life—plus three bonus tips for safer air travel.
Why Reducing EMF Exposure Matters
Dirty electricity has been linked to cancer and diabetes, and organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), the FCC, and the FDA have classified EMF as a potential carcinogen.
In this post, I’ll share a short video by my friend Robyn Openshaw, explaining what EMF is and why small changes in your home and office could dramatically improve your health and energy levels.
If you have children, addressing EMF exposure is especially critical—developing brains are highly sensitive to these frequencies. Robyn has also prepared an EMF Action Plan to help you measure EMF levels in your home and take action to minimize exposure.
10 Tips to Reduce EMF Exposure
1. Use EMF Protection Devices
One of the easiest ways to protect yourself is by using xZubi stickers on all cell phones, tablets, and electronic devices. These patented devices help shield human cells from chaotic frequencies.
2. Unplug Electronics When Not in Use
Even when turned off, plugged-in devices still emit EMF. Unplug chargers, appliances, and other electronics when they aren’t being used. (Tip: The EMF Action Plan includes guidance on choosing an EMF meter to test outlets.)
3. Avoid CFL Lightbulbs
Compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) emit high levels of EMF and release mercury into the environment—70% within just the first three days after installation.
Better options:
- Use incandescent bulbs (widely available at Home Depot or Amazon).
- LED bulbs are the second-best choice—but test them with an EMF meter, as some still emit radiation.
4. Keep Your Phone at a Distance
If you must keep your cell phone on, store it at least 8 feet away from your body whenever possible—especially while sleeping. Never charge your phone next to your bed.
5. Reduce Blue Light Exposure
Blue light from screens disrupts melatonin production, interfering with sleep cycles.
Solutions:
- Turn off your TV and devices at least an hour before bed.
- Use blue-light-blocking glasses (like Gunnar glasses) in the evening.
- Enable “Night Shift” mode on your phone or install f.lux on your computer—it automatically adjusts screen brightness based on the time of day.
6. Get Grounded
Walking barefoot on grass, dirt, or sand allows you to discharge built-up EMF and absorb earth’s natural electrons, which neutralize free radicals.
Other grounding techniques:
- Hugging trees
- Using grounding mats while working at your desk
7. Limit Metal on Your Body
Metal acts as an EMF conductor.
Avoid:
- Underwire bras
- Metal jewelry
Instead:
Wear Q-Link pendants or crystal jewelry, which may help counteract EMF exposure.
8. Turn Off Wi-Fi at Night
Your Wi-Fi router constantly emits radiation.
Simple fix:
- Use a timer to automatically turn off your Wi-Fi overnight.
- Consider wired internet connections for computers instead of Wi-Fi.
Pro tip: If you rely on mobile data, T-Mobile’s unlimited plan allows you to reduce Wi-Fi usage. Cellular data pings every five minutes, whereas Wi-Fi continuously scans for a signal.
9. Protect Yourself from SMART Meters
Many homes have SMART meters, which transmit high levels of EMF.
What you can do:
- Ask your power company if you can switch to an analog meter.
- If not, install a SMART meter guard to reduce radiation.
- Shield interior walls behind the meter using EMF-blocking paint or fabric.
10. Choose Leather-Soled Shoes
Rubber soles block grounding, preventing your body from discharging EMF.
Better choice:
Wear leather-soled shoes or Earth Runners, a brand of grounded minimalist sandals.
Bonus: 3 EMF Safety Tips for Air Travel
1. Fly at Night When Possible
Radiation exposure is higher during daytime flights due to increased solar radiation.
Tip: Take iodine supplements, which protect cells from EMF. Fulvic and humic acid supplements (like Ultimate Minerals) also provide essential trace minerals.
2. Opt Out of Airport Scanners
TSA does not allow babies to go through body scanners—yet claims they are safe for adults.
Tip: Request a manual pat-down instead. The cumulative effect of radiation is the real danger, not just a single dose.
3. Discharge EMF After Flying
Remove your shoes mid-flight to discharge excess EMF. When you land, walk barefoot on grass or soil for a few minutes to rebalance your body’s natural energy.
Final Thoughts
If you’re already dealing with health issues—such as heavy metal toxicity, viral infections, or recovering from cancer—EMF exposure can worsen symptoms by weakening the immune system.
